Rose geranium is more than just a garden plant. Its sweet, leafy-green aroma can harmonize the skin and protect it from external disruptions. Originally from southern Africa, this herb with violet and pink flowers now grows worldwide, thriving in tropical environments and places with full sun.
With its abundance of essential oils, rose geranium is widely used in aromatherapy and the essential oil industry. You can enjoy its benefits by using it in a diffuser or in bath salts to wash away the tension of a long day. It's also a powerful skincare ingredient with properties that protect the skin from bad bacteria, soothe irritation, and preserve natural skincare products for long-term use.
In herbalism, rose geranium is known as an astringent, which helps to tone and tighten the skin and makes for a more even appearance. It also supports healthy, balanced sebum production, making it great for combination and oily skin types. We use rose geranium in over half of our products because it's so effective at restoring the skin and naturally preserving our plant-rich formulas.
The most common form of rose geranium used in our products is a hydrosol form, which is a humectant that helps to retain moisture. Since we use it so much in our products and Atelier, we create our own hydrosols using an alembic still, where steam captures the oils trapped in micro-pockets within the plant tissue. The result is a bright and floral aromatic liquid that contains all the most potent parts of the plant. We also infuse rose geranium into many of our face oils.
All our rose geranium is grown on the Botnia Micro-Farm in Sausalito, California, or by our local and regional farming partners like GEM and Tookey Farms. We support regenerative, organic, and equitable farming practices in efforts to leave a positive impact on our communities and planet.
