The Queen of the Microfarm
Rose is the heart of my home and the origin of my garden’s story. Some of the roses here have been growing since long before we worked this land. Long-time residents in my neighborhood still tell me about how our property once looked like a park. When I arrived, it felt more like a secret garden, overgrown and wild, with treasures hidden under years of neglect….
One of those treasures was a rose garden with blooms the size of dinner plates. Over the years, we planted many more roses and now I feel that they truly became the heart of our micro-farm, our home. Today, we have thirty-five rose bushes. The tallest rose bush reaches thirteen feet high, and in spring, the fence line is filled with soft pink blooms.
This is where our Rose Hydrosol comes from. Sausalito’s mix of fog and warm sun creates a uniquely soft aromatic that cools, calms, and nurtures both the heart and the skin. With every spray of this hydrosol, I feel more connected to my garden, to the plants that nourish me, and to the feeling of home.
Roses are more than flowers to me, they’re medicine. In herbalism, rose is known for its ability to soothe both skin and spirit. It tones gently while keeping moisture in, offering balance without ever overwhelming. When distilled into hydrosol, the plant’s wisdom is captured in its most delicate form.
Making hydrosol is a deeply human process. It’s slow, intentional, and requires patience to wait for the plant to give what it wants to give. When I hold a bottle of Rose Hydrosol, I see not just skincare, but the hands that planted, watered, harvested, and distilled it. From my garden to your bathroom shelf, it’s a direct thread meant to remind you of your own connection to nature.
That’s why this hydrosol feels so special to me. It’s the heart of Botnia. A reminder that what we put on our skin can be simple, powerful, and full of love.
